Some countries require a selection of nationalities to obtain a Letter Of Invitation (LOI) before they can apply for a visa. This is a documents issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an agency, company or national of that particular country inviting you to visit the country for a period of time. Once issued, it is then used to support your visa application. The LOI typically contains your personal information and the details of your trip. If you do require an LOI for your application, you won’t be able to apply for a visa without it.
Some countries have more relaxed rules about the LOIs than others. For instance, Turkmenistan LOIs must be issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while the ones for China can be written by a travel agency or even your friend if they live in China.
